Cystopteris bulbifera

Bulblet fern

This fern thrives in shaded, moist environments with well-drained, slightly acidic soils. Its unique bulblets, small bulb-like growths on the fronds, allow it to spread across woodland floors. Cystopteris bulbifera prefers partial to full shade and can tolerate some dryness. Although not a pollinator plant, its moist microhabitat supports a range of insects, such as leafhoppers and ferns’ native pests. It’s a fantastic fern for creating shady, cool retreats in your garden.
