Dennstaedtia punctilibula

Hay-scented fern

So you have a woodland area you need to fill in quickly? Or you have to deal with invasive jumping worms depleating the soil? Hay-scented fern might be just the right plant to help. This species spreads by rhizomes (horizontal underground plant stems essentially) and will form a solid groundcover that can quickly populate a woodland area. It’s also deer and rabbit resistant (like most ferns). Just be aware that this is quite aggressive and most plants can’t compete.

Dennstaedtia punctilibula, when brushed against, smells like freshly cut hay, thus the common name. Generally found in the wild in a woodland setting, this species can also tolerate full sun if the soil is constantly moist.

Plants can be purchased in-person or online (with in-person pick-up).

All online orders will be ready for pick-up 24-72 hours after purchase. You will receive an email to let you know when your order is ready. We kindly ask that you pick-up any orders within one week of purchase.
