Plant information

There is so much to love about purple lovegrass. It is a tough little plant, drought hardy, and brings subtle waves of color and texture to the landscape.

The grass blades are blueish-green at the base and transform to a lovely reddish-purple at the tips. A field of purple lovegrass is breathtaking.

This perennial is self-seeding, and can be kept in check by deadheading the seed panicles. This is an excellent plant along the roadside and hellstrips as it can handle the salt load from the roads.

Use purple lovegrass throughout your landscape, in garden areas, green roofs, rock gardens, and biological restoration areas.
