Cercis canadensis
Redbud
The stunning redbud (Cercis canadensis) is a beautiful tree with its bountiful pink flowers that bloom in the spring. Native to New England, *just* south of us. Not *quite* native to Massachusetts. Its one of the top trees customers ask for so we decided to carry it!
Eastern redbud is one of those trees that reliably makes people stop and look. Early in spring, its branches are lined with bright pink flowers—often before leaves have fully emerged—bringing color to the landscape at just the right moment. With heart-shaped leaves and a graceful form, redbud works equally well as a focal point or woven into a mixed native planting.
Those early blooms are more than just pretty; they provide nectar for pollinators and hummingbirds when few other sources are available. Later in the season, seed pods offer food for birds (such as quail, turkey, and a variety of songbirds). Redbud is an easygoing, adaptable tree that manages to be both ornamental and ecologically meaningful.
