Aristida purpurascens (arrow feather threeawn)

For those tricky, "lean" spots where nothing else seems to grow, Arrow feather Three-Awn is a true hidden gem. This slender, warm-season grass thrives in dry, sandy, or rocky soils and looks like a delicate spray of fine mist in the landscape.

In late summer, it produces distinctive seed heads with three long, wire-like awns that give it a wispy, ethereal appearance. It’s a low-maintenance champion that provides excellent nesting material for birds and acts as a host plant for several skipper butterflies.

It’s the perfect "filler" for a minimalist meadow or a high-drainage rock garden.
