Salix sericea

Silky willow

Named for the fine, silvery hairs on the undersides of its leaves that shimmer in the breeze, Silky Willow is a beautiful addition to any wet landscape. This multi-stemmed shrub grows quickly, reaching 6–12 feet tall, and produces lovely purplish twigs that add great winter interest.

Like most willows, it’s an ecological powerhouse, serving as a host plant for hundreds of butterfly and moth species, including the spectacular Viceroys and Cecropia Moths. It’s a perfect choice for rain gardens or as a natural "privacy screen" in soggy soils.
