Iva frutescens, maritime marsh-elder, is a small that produces tiny, inconspicuous greenish-white flowers in late summer and early fall, and reaches a maximum height of about 4 feet.
Maritime marsh-elder prefers full sun and thrives in a variety of soil types, including sandy, loamy, and clay.
It provides food and habitat for caterpillars, butterflies, and ground-nesting birds. This plant also serves as a host plant for the larvae of numerous moth species, including the saltmarsh moth and the goldenrod hooded owlet.
