Solidago sempervirens

Seaside goldenrod is a plant well suited for poor, sandy soils, salt-prone areas, and otherwise gnarly growing conditions. Given bare bones conditions, this goldenrod tops out around 3 feet tall, but in a pampered garden setting it can reach nearly 6 feet! Don’t let that intimidate you, it is easy to get a tidier, more compact plant by pinching the tips in the early summer.

A late summer bloomer, this goldenrod provides a much needed nectar source for the migrating Monarch butterfly, as well as supporting over 120 other pollinators. The foliage is succulent-like, able to withstand the salty ocean breeze (or the barrage of winter road mess!) and the plant spreads easily by seed. Goldenrod species do tend to easily hybridize with others that are close by, this species has been noted to hybridize with Solidago rugosa.

Plants can be purchased in-person or online (with in-person pick-up).
