Clinopodium vulgaris
Wild basil
Wild basil is a low, tidy perennial with small lavender flowers that bloom steadily through summer. It thrives in sunny, dry conditions and works well in open gardens, meadow edges, and even gravelly soils where other plants struggle.
Its nectar-rich flowers are a favorite of native bees and small butterflies, while seed heads may be visited by birds later in the season. Though modest in appearance, wild basil quietly supports pollinators and fits nicely into low-maintenance plantings.
