Micranthes virginiensis (f. Saxifraga virginiensis)
Early saxifrage
Micranthes virginiensis, early saxifrage, produces small clusters of white flowers in early spring. This plant typically grows to a height of 4-10 inches and prefers well-drained soil in partial to full sun.
Early saxifrage is known to attract butterflies and provides a valuable food source for caterpillars of certain butterfly species. Additionally, it serves as a host plant for the West Virginia White butterfly (Western MA). Native birds, such as the Hermit Thrush, Eastern Bluebird, and Northern Mockingbird, also consume the seeds of this plant.
Plants can be purchased in-person or online (with in-person pick-up). All online orders will be ready for pick-up 24-72 hours after purchase. You will receive an email to let you know when your order is ready. We kindly ask that you pick-up any orders within one week of purchase.
