Plant information
Schreber's aster is a woodland gem that quietly does its job when most other blooms have called it quits for the season. Its clusters of small white flowers with yellow centers light up shady spots from late summer into fall, right when pollinators need the fuel most. This one prefers partial to full shade and settles nicely into a woodland edge or dappled garden bed, spreading gradually to form a lovely naturalized patch over time. It's a close cousin of white wood aster, though it tends to favor drier, richer soils and slightly more shade. Give it a spot under your trees and let it do what it does best: feed the pollinators and light up the understory when everything else is winding down.
