Plant information
Lance-leaf coreopsis brings cheerful, sunny yellow blooms to the garden from late spring right through summer, giving pollinators a reliable nectar source during those important early months. This one loves full sun and thrives in dry to average, well-drained soil, making it a great pick for a tough spot where other perennials struggle. It grows in tidy clumps about 1 to 2 feet tall and spreads readily, so it's a good choice if you want low-maintenance color to fill in a sunny bed.
A quick note on native range: lance-leaf coreopsis isn't native to New England, its natural range sits just south and west of us, but it's widely planted here and offers real ecological value. It's a strong nectar source for native bees and butterflies, and its seeds feed goldfinches and other songbirds through fall and winter. If you're building a garden that's strictly regional-ecotype natives only, this one's worth skipping in favor of a New England native alternative. But if you're open to near-native species that still support local wildlife, lance-leaf coreopsis is an easy, generous performer to have in the mix.
